sostanza immaginativa.
Acquatinta anche per Hsiao Chin e per
Peter Freeth. Il procedimento indiretto
è unito ad un passaggio serigrafico
nell’artista cinese il cui abituale segno
calligrafico sembra essersi, nell’occasione
odierna, richiuso, sobillato forse
da un’esigenza letteraria. Resta pertanto
Simon Fletcher, Mario Teleri Biason,
Giuliana Balice.
evidenza, nell’abitudine a calcolare i gesti,
plate to achieve soft, enveloping visions.
Simon Fletcher, Mario Teleri Biason and
Giuliana Balice use only aquatint as a way
of overcoming the linearity of the sign.
For Fletcher, a watercolour artist of great
acclaim, it is an almost natural application
that stimulates him for the affinity that both
practices achieve, even the distance of the
application. He attains these effects holding
true to a distinctive element
of his experience, that of coinciding idea
and technique. It is a very evident
combination for the artist, his way
of calculating movements, calculating
the substances to make a thought concrete,
given back – suggested Henry Focillon – as
an “impression of the spirit”.
These are the impressions that Simon looks
for in the hard plate, waiting for the slow
action of the acid to uncover animated
forms through chromatic values, passages
of tone and chiaroscuro.
Imaginary forms, or rather, transfigurations
of the spirit where the planes blend with
the volumes, made palpable by a light that
is spot in movement. Images of a perceived
space, in its captivating beauty, like an
interior space.
Mario Teleri Biason gives the plate a body of
geometrically interlaced weaves calculated
in the graining to control the effects of
the greys. Colour is, in fact, a further
touch by hand to personalise the image.
Teleri has held the eye on those decorative
polychromies, on the arabesques, evidence
of cultural stratifications, imaginative
weaving that cover the walls of time, in
an abstract sense. He has let himself be
captured by the play on signs and lines, by
the exact joints of the geometric figures.
His has made them his own on the plate,
colouring them on the paper with the breath
of his imagination. The use of aquatint is of
assistance to Giuliana Balice to the extent
that the need for the solid, full, constructive
form is a constant of her experience in
plastic art. In fact, exact geometric forms
emerge from the darkness of the plate,
