Fabbri GRAVITÀ DELLE RIACUTIZZAZIONI Nel valutare la gravità di una riacutizzazione di <strong>BPCO</strong> 1-7 è molto importante eseguire le prove di funzionalità respiratoria, in particolare l’emogasanalisi arteriosa, il picco di flusso e/o la spirometria, e confrontarne i risultati con quelli di analoghe prove eseguite in corso di stabilità della <strong>BPCO</strong> (tabella 5.2). La durata media di una riacutizzazione dei sintomi che si sviluppa in pazienti con <strong>BPCO</strong> medio-grave (media del VEMS di circa il 42% del teorico) seguita ambulatoriamente è di circa 7 giorni,con range da 4 a 14 giorni 7 . Nel corso di riacutizzazioni lievi e moderate, le variazioni del VEMS e/o del PEF sono contenute, e comunque sproporzionatamente piccole rispetto alle manifestazioni cliniche. Più importante è la riduzione di VEMS nel corso di riacutizzazioni gravi con ricovero ospedaliero 8 . 94
