When Top design Marries haute hospitality<br />
We meet Lorenza Cavallero, Chef Concierge of the hotel Straf in Milan.<br />
un punto d'arrivo, e di partenza, per viaggiatori non<br />
convenzionali, appassionati di design-hotel o curiosi<br />
di provare nuove formule d'accoglienza. Tutto<br />
questo è l'hotel Straf di Milano, un luogo fuori dal<br />
comune a due passi dal duomo, come ci spiega il suo<br />
chief concierge, Lorenza Cavallero.<br />
Signora Cavallero, in che modo l'Hotel Straf si contraddistingue<br />
da quelli di tipo tradizionale?<br />
gli ospiti percepiscono immediatamente l'originalità<br />
del nostro hotel che combina la funzionalità del<br />
design moderno con le calde atmosfere generate dall'uso<br />
di materiali come l'ardesia a spacco e l'ottone<br />
brunito. i tratti originali, però, si colgono anche in<br />
altri piccoli dettagli come per esempio l'abbigliamento<br />
scelto per il nostro staff, un dress code minimalista<br />
ed easy going, che rispecchia la filosofia<br />
dell'hotel.<br />
Un hotel non convenzionale attira clienti fuori dal<br />
comune?<br />
in un certo senso è così, molti dei nostri ospiti lavorano<br />
nel campo della moda e del design, della musica,<br />
ma capita spesso di avere anche famiglie che<br />
arrivano dal nord Europa, e che amano frequentare<br />
hotel design anche in altri paesi.<br />
Ci racconta qualche richiesta insolita?<br />
Ce ne sono state molte, mi ricordo per esempio quando<br />
ospitammo Marylin Manson, che al suo arrivo chiese<br />
di trovare dell'assenzio in una camera che doveva<br />
mantenere una temperatura gelida. il più delle volte,<br />
però, ci sono persone che chiedono un consiglio per<br />
vivere una bella esperienza.<br />
Dove trova le informazioni per dare consigli ai clienti?<br />
di solito attingo dal bagaglio di esperienze che ho<br />
costruito con il tempo e con la passione, io credo<br />
ancora nel valore dell'agenda del concierge un po'<br />
pasticciata, ma piena di risorse e di commenti personali.<br />
Quando posso, vado di persona a scovare ristorantini,<br />
centri benessere, mostre o luoghi particolari.<br />
Se un posto mi regala un'emozione, allora vale la<br />
pena consigliarlo anche agli ospiti dell'hotel Straf.<br />

Mrs. Cavallero, what sets Hotel Straf apart from the<br />
more traditional type of hotel?<br />
our guests perceive the originality of our hotel immediately,<br />
its combination of functionality and modern<br />
design suffused with a warm atmosphere, thanks to<br />
the use of materials such as riven slate and burnished<br />
brass. original features that can be found also in the<br />
smaller details, such as the uniform chosen for the<br />
staff, a minimalist and easy going dress code that reflects<br />
the hotel’s philosophy.<br />
Does an unconventional hotel attract unconventional<br />
clients?<br />
in a certain sense it does, many of our guests work<br />
in the fashion, design and music industries, but we<br />
often welcome families from northern Europe, who<br />
love to try out design hotels also in other countries.<br />
Have any of your guests ever made a bizarre request?<br />
yes, many, for example, i remember the time Marilyn<br />
Manson stayed here, on his arrival he asked that<br />
a bottle of absinthe be sent to his room, which had<br />
to be kept at a freezing cold temperature. Mostly,<br />
however, people ask for advice on where they can go<br />
to have a beautiful experience.<br />
Where do you find the information that you pass on<br />
to your guests?<br />
generally, i draw on my own experience and knowledge,<br />
built up enthusiastically over the years. i continue<br />
to believe in the value of the concierge’s diary,<br />
full of scribbles and scrawls but full of resources<br />
and personal notes. When i can, i go personally to<br />
discover little restaurants, wellness centres, to see<br />
shows or visit particular places. if a place makes<br />
me feel good, then it’s worth recommending to the<br />
guests of hotel Straf.<br />
