Situata tra lo splendido mare del golfo e le bianche
rocce del Carso, la “tormentosa” Trieste, come
amava definirla umberto Saba, non ha mai smesso
di affascinare moltissimi artisti che hanno dedicato
al capoluogo giuliano i versi più celebri.
a spasso per vicoli e piazzette, lungo gradinate
a picco sul mare o immersi nella bora che toglie
il respiro e purifica l’aria, la seducente città mitteleuropea
non smette di stupire con lo splendore
delle sue opere d’arte.
L’impronta mitteleuropea si assapora osservando
i numerosi palazzi neoclassici e liberty che da
Piazza unità si affacciano sul mare: il Palazzo
Comunale, il Palazzo Modello, la Casa Stratti con
il suo Caffè degli Specchi, locale storico inaugurato
nel 1839, il Palazzo del governo ed il Palazzo
del Lloyd Triestino. Se vi trovate nella pittoresca
via Cavana, parte vecchia della città, potete arrivare
in Piazza della Borsa, da cui si innalza il
Palazzo della Borsa.
Poco distante è il Teatro Verdi, che ha visto
passare sul suo palcoscenico i grandi interpreti
rossiniani, belliniani, donizettiani e verdiani e
ha visto le operose presenze di musicisti come
il Farinelli e i fratelli Ricci, nonché quelle di
direttori come Mahler, Strauss, Toscanini, de
Sabata, Marinuzzi, allineando nella propria
storia tutti i migliori interpreti fino a Karajan
e alla Callas.
da piazza goldoni, si giunge in via Carducci, importante
via cittadina: lo stile è quello austro-ungarico
con imponenti palazzi ed alberi a completare
la sontuosità del luogo.
Salendo sul Colle di San giusto si gode di un panorama
straordinario sulla città e il golfo. La Basilica
Forense testimonia l’epoca romana, mentre
il Castello, risalente al 1470, è solo l’ultimo di una
lunga serie di ricostruzioni.
L’edificio più importante di Trieste è la Basilica
di San giusto, il cui interno è un tripudio di
mosaici, affreschi, dipinti e sculture risalenti a
epoche diverse.

Set between the splendid sea of the bay and the
white rocks of Carso, “tormented” Trieste, as umberto
Saba liked to define it, has never stopped seducing
the many artists who have dedicated their
most famous verses to the capital city of Venezia
giulia. Strolling around its alleyways and tiny
squares, up and down the steep flights of steps
that plunge to the sea or caught in the Bora wind
that whips your breath away and sharpens the air,
the seductive Central European city never fails to
amaze with the splendour of its works of art.
The Central European imprint can be savoured
by observing the many neo-classical and Liberty
buildings that look out to sea from Piazza unità:
the Palazzo Comunale, Palazzo Modello, Casa
Stratti with its Caffe degli Specchi, a historic coffee
shop that opened its doors in 1839, the Palazzo
governo and the Palazzo del Lloyd Triestino. if
you find yourself in the picturesque street called
Via Cavana, in the old part of the city, you can
reach Piazza della Borsa, from which rises the
Palazzo della Borsa (the Stock Exchange).

long line of reconstructions.
Trieste’s most important building is the San giusto
