Tomass Sārts. A Trip to
Paris
My name is William. I’m sixteen years old and I live in
London. I go to Kings Cross School. Usually it’s boring there
but sometimes with my friends we try to make it less boring
by doing something fun like last month. We (I, James,
Charles and Elizabeth) decided to compete in the Geography
competition and thanks to the smart James we won four paid
three day journeys to Paris. We were going to stay in the
hotel “Palace”. My aunt Jill says there is no better place to
stay in Paris than the hotel Palace, so we thought it should be nice.
First we drove to the Waterloo station and got on the train to Paris which goes through
an underwater tunnel. It was pretty weird because it was dark outside and you
couldn’t know what was ahead and the thought that we were under water was even
more frightening. On the train we talked about Paris – how fun and interesting it will
be and what we’ll do and visit. First we decided that we will go to the Eifel tower then
stroll down Champs Elisees and probably see some of Louvre. Then that we’ll visit
the shopping center ‘La Fayette ’.
When we got off the train we got into a taxi and went to the hotel. I didn’t like the old
fashioned posh style in the hotel but otherwise it was good. It was quite late, so we
decided to go to a café for dinner. None of us was good at French except James who
knew a little. We had to ask him to order for us. He got out his dictionary and started
ordering: ‘Je voudrais...potage, salade, moules et le poulet avec pommes de terre.’
‘D’accord.’ said the waiter with a smile on his face. He probably was laughing at the
way he was talking French, but then we probably where not the first tourists he was
serving. The food was unusual but I liked it and so did the others. After that we went
to our room and watched all types of French films. I actually like French films. Well,
sometimes they are weird, but you never know how they will end up, not like in the
American films.
Next day we went to the Eifel tower. It was big. When we went up it was frightening
because it looked like you were very high up. But the sight was magnificent. You
could see a big part of Paris from up there. Notre damme de Paris, Monmatre, Opera
de Paris, everything was there just under our feet. Next we went to the grand big and
well known shopping center ‘Lafayette’. It reminded me our Harrods. Inside it looked
like an opera and most of the shops were expensive and chic. After that we went to
our hotel by metro. The metro wasn’t very different from the underground in London.
On the following day when we went out we saw many students shouting and
protesting aagainst something. They were throwing all sorts of things at the police and
the police were shooting water at them. We were going down the street when the
angry crowd of students came running in our way. We had no other choice than
running along with them. While we were running, we spotted an alley and we all
into it. Some other people had seen it too, so they were already there. We started
talking and they said that they were protesting because their President has decided
to
change the job market in France at the expense of the students. That was interesting, I
had never been in the riots before, we English never riot, but French do. At least that
is what we see from time to time across the Channel on our TVs. And now here I was
