De Japanse Hideyuki Niwa groeide op tussen de<br />

bloemen. Van jongs af vertrouwd met hun kwali<strong>te</strong>i<strong>te</strong>n,<br />

kwetsbaarheden en mogelijkheden leek floral<br />

designer worden een logische volgende stap. Op<br />

zijn twintigs<strong>te</strong> studeerde hij af aan Tokio’s Flower<br />

College, wat me<strong>te</strong>en ook deuren opende bij Kamon<br />

Flower Ga<strong>te</strong> Co Ltd; een rijke en vruchtbare werkomgeving<br />

waar zijn ta<strong>len</strong>t alleen maar aanscherp<strong>te</strong>.<br />

De in<strong>te</strong>rnationale wedstrijden waaraan hij deelneemt<br />

zijn persoonlijke krachtme<strong>ting</strong>en. Hij jongleert,<br />

construeert en experimen<strong>te</strong>ert met bloemen.<br />

Zijn broer en co-ontwerper Sinji s<strong>te</strong>unt hem in deze<br />

constan<strong>te</strong> zoektocht. Als venno<strong>te</strong>n werken ze samen<br />

onder de naam ‘Mixture’. Hideyuki’s klassieke,<br />

lineaire stijl, met een nauwkeurige, spaarzame en<br />

bedachtzame plaatsing van plan<strong>te</strong>n en ma<strong>te</strong>ria<strong>len</strong> -<br />

de quin<strong>te</strong>ssentiële eigenschappen van het Japanse<br />

wabi sabi - leverden hem <strong>te</strong>recht de ‘Bronze Leaf’ in<br />

de editie 2010/2011 en de ‘Golden Leaf’ in de editie<br />

2012/2<strong>013</strong> op in de prestigieuze In<strong>te</strong>rnational Floral<br />

Japanese Con<strong>te</strong>mporary Floral Art<br />

Surrounded by flowers from a very young age, the<br />

decision to become a floral designer was an obvious<br />

one for Japanese Hideyuki Niwa. At the age of<br />

20 he gradua<strong>te</strong>d from Tokyo’s flower college and in<br />

the same year he got employed by Kamon Flower<br />

Ga<strong>te</strong> Co Ltd; a great and fruitful environment for an<br />

artist eager to learn and develop. To keep on chal<strong>len</strong>ging<br />

himself Niwa of<strong>te</strong>n takes part in competitions<br />

and tries crea<strong>ting</strong> and photographing a new<br />

design every day to get a thorough understanding<br />

of the charac<strong>te</strong>ristics of flowers and their possibilities.<br />

Hideyuki <strong>te</strong>ams up with his brother Sinji in his<br />

quest to crea<strong>te</strong> a new sort of flower design - combining<br />

flowers with other ma<strong>te</strong>rials to bring the<br />

designs and floral arrangements to the next level,<br />

hence the name of their partnership ‘Mixture’. His<br />

classic, linear stye and minimalist expression with<br />

careful placement of plant ma<strong>te</strong>rials, quin<strong>te</strong>ssential<br />

charac<strong>te</strong>ristics of the Japanese aesthetic concept<br />

wabi sabi, rightfully won him the Bronze Leaf<br />

in the 2010/2011 edition and the Gold Leaf in the<br />

2012/2<strong>013</strong> edition of S<strong>tich</strong><strong>ting</strong> K<strong>unstboek</strong>’s prestigious<br />

In<strong>te</strong>rnational Floral Art.<br />
