BAGLIO GIBELLINA
BAGLIO
The ancient and unchanged splendour of
Sicily is also reflected in the historic buildings
which have an elegant and sought
after architectural style. Baglio Gibellina
dominates the new town and the vineyards
of the hills nearby. The main element
of the exterior is the “baglio” which
is none other that the inner courtyard of
the farmhouse surrounded by a series of
rural stores that were once used to the
collection and processing of grapes.
From this courtyard an immediate sense
of tranquillity and delicacy emanates, it
is characterised by each change of season
bringing different colours, scents
and sounds depending on the lukewarm
springtime sun or the melancholy mists
of autumn, all immersed in the beauty of
intense sunsets or starry skies.
GIBELLINA IS ART
Gibellina could be considered today as a
museum “en plein air”, a place where art
merges with everyday life as day to day living
is mixed with deep culture in various
forms. There are several sights worth
a visit; the contemporary art museum
which houses works from, among others,
Mario Schifano, Renato Guttuso and other
famous Italian and international artists.
A sculptor who has left a clear mark in the
new Gibellina is Pietro Consagra with his
piece “Stella del Belice”, a 24 meter high
sculpture at the entrance to the town.
