ABSTRACT<br />
If wakes an analysis of how was São Luís society between 1850 – 1888, trying to<br />
realize the wealth of quotidian relations among free people, poor people, owners<br />
and slaves. Arguments from traditional historiography are undone like the binomial<br />
owners/slave that polarized society according to the concepts of plantation,<br />
following a socio and professional analysis from the period.<br />
