The knowledge production in the area of nursing history

From the decade of 1980 the studies about Nursing and its insertion in the historical process
began in Brazil in a critical perspective, revealing assumed postures by profession through the years.
This historical knowledge built has grown and revealed itself as a way of perception and profession
analysis through the time.
The Nursing incursion in this area was possible in consequence of historical studies enlarging
in the general context, from the paradigm “New History”, that extended History farther on their antique
limits, and started to give emphasis to all human activity in the history’s construction process,
demarking the individual’s memory as a spring to the construction of historical knowing.
The preservation of the Nursing memory is intrinsically related to the documentation work,
whereas in the springs is found the presence of the past. They are important because they permit
that the events don’t get lost, become possible to the realization of the historical studies. In Nursing
it is needed to value the documentation work to the memory preservation of the profession, so
it is still common the document discarding without its meaning be identified and registered. The
inexistence of documents that difficult too much the work of the researchers that most of time at
developing their studies has to realize the organization work of the documental springs.
The production of knowledge about the Nursing history is growing and currently develops
itself in the research nuclei , in the programs of post-graduation, in Bachelor courses and every time
strengths with publications of books and indexed magazines, configuring as an area of Nursing
knowledge.
Thus, sluggishly Nursing uncovers its past and show, for instance, the fight Pioneer nurses to
make feasible its political projects, the profession in the interface of social context in which acts and
the social strengths that in the different historical contexts made possible the Nursing advance or
goes back, become or not, subject of the profession transformations. These studies are important,
because they help to elaborate new synthesis about the profession, in the member’s perspective of
this de category, of critical form, aware and, therefore subject of the history itself.
