Abstract
Introduction
When a person starts a company, he or she most certain meets
great many problems. Besides the most common ones, a person not
born in Sweden can meet several different difficulties. This group of
self-employed persons can experience different forms of discrimination,
mainly because of the lack of language skills and cultural differences.
Finding and showing possible difficulties can hopefully minimise them
in the future. The intention of this thesis is to describe the financial
situation at the start and early expansion for companies founded and
run by persons with foreign background.
Purpose
Method
The purpose is to describe what conditions self-employed immigrants
have when they finance start-up and growth of a company. We will
also give suggestions to krAft how they can create kraft-groups for selfemployed
immigrants.
In order to fulfil the purpose of the thesis we have used a combination
of a qualitative and a quantitative method. A survey was sent out to
companies owned by people with foreign background in the
municipality of Jönköping, and then personal interviews were made
with 5 of those persons in order to receive a deeper understanding.
Further analyses and conclusions were then based on this material.
Conclusion The thesis shows that there are some obstacles for self-employed
immigrants like difficulties with the language, and lack of knowledge
concerning the Swedish economic life. They though have some
advantages like a large support from family and friends, which
sometimes help them to overcome financial obstacles.
