VEGETATIVE PROPAGATION OF SOME CLONES OF ARBORESCENT
WILLOWS DURING THE GROWING PERIOD
Summary
The author's conclusions in the above work are as follows:
1. During the growing season it is possible to perform successively vegetative
propagation of arborescent Willows from short greenwood cuttings in the germinating
bed of closed type. A high percentage of rooting of cuttings is achieved irrespective
of the time of planting.
2. It is best to take the cuttings from the lower part of the shoot and to make
the lower cut within the node. It is best to place the cuttings ca. 1 cm. deep in the
substratum.
3. If the cuttings are planted in the early spring it is possibhe to obtain the
material for routine vegetative propagation. In plants raised from the cuttings which
were planted in early spring we achieve a very well developed root system which
makes possible to produce in the second year quality 1/2 plants, i. e. two-year-old
rooted cuttings having one-year tops.
4. Also in the plants raised from the cuttings which were planted at a later date
we achieve a well-developed root system, and by transplanting them and cutting
back it is also possible to raise 1/2 plants.
5. This method makes possible that the time of the veegtative propagation is
extended from the short interval at the beginning of the growing period over the
whole duration of this period.
