LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,<br />
DEAR FRIENDS OF <strong>MEISSEN</strong> PORCELAIN ® ,<br />
Please allow me, by way of this catalogue, to present to you the<br />
collection of Limited-Edition Meissen ® Art Works for <strong>2017</strong>.<br />
The <strong>2017</strong> series again embraces a wide variety of art works in the<br />
most diverse of styles, as is our constant aspiration. We are always<br />
particularly intent, within the framework of any such collection, on<br />
breathing fresh life into ancient shapes and moulds from our archives<br />
as well as on reviving early painting techniques and preserving them<br />
for posterity. Cases in point are the vase sprigged with roses, which<br />
had no longer been produced in this way since the late nineteenth<br />
century, or the “Flora with Cherubs” vase with its Limoges-style<br />
enamelling, a painting technique that had almost fallen into oblivion.<br />
It is likewise a source of great joy to me that we have been able this<br />
year to supplement items based on historical prototypes with a range<br />
of modern pieces.<br />
These include the first sculptural work by Maria Walther, who I am<br />
convinced will find plenty of admirers with her refreshingly novel<br />
formal vocabulary, with the promise of more that is just as engaging<br />
to come.<br />
Prof. Heinz Werner’s wall pictures are impressive proof that<br />
contemporary art has nothing to do with how old you are. Despite<br />
his great age, he is still bursting with creativity and a love of life. He<br />
is constantly coming up with cheerful new works of art with which to<br />
thrill <strong>MEISSEN</strong> ® fanciers.<br />
Did you not always want to know how such a work of art emerges?<br />
We gladly take you behind the scenes to offer you exclusive insights<br />
into Meissen’s craft skills. None of our artistic creations would be<br />
conceivable without perfect teamwork. The catalogue contains<br />
dossiers on a number of those involved who are undeniably masters<br />
of their trade. We feel sure these will make gripping reading.<br />
