The One Atmosphere International Equation
of State of Seavater, 1980
Definition
The density (p, kg of seavater at one standard atmosphere
(p = o) is to be computed from the practical salinity (S) and the
temperature (t, "^C) with the following equation :
p(S,t,o) - Py + 93 X 10-^ - A.0899 x 10"^ t
+ 7.6438 X t^ - 8.2A67 x lO"'' t^ + 5.3875 x 10'^
+(-5.72A 66 X 10~3 + 1.0227 x 10'^ t - 1.65A6 x 10"^
+ A.831A X S^
where p^, the density of the Standard Mean Ocean Water (SHOW) taken
as pure water reference, is given by
p^ » 999.842 594 + 6.793 952 x lO'^ t - 9.095 290 x 10~3 t^
+ 1.001 685 X lO""* t3 - 1.120 083 x IQ-^ t"^
+ 6.536 332 x lO'^ t^
The one atmosphere International Equation of State of Seawater,
1980 is valid for practical salinity from 0 to A2 and temperature
from -2 to AO®C.
