Abstract
This master entitled B&U – Fjernsyn til alle tider. En undersøgelse af Danmarks Radios Børne-
og unge-delingen 1968-75 is a study of the principal public service broadcaster in Denmark,
Danmarks Radio’s department for children and young people, B&U-afdelingen. The
department was founded in 1968, although DR has a long tradition for broadcasting for
children and young people. The master consists of a historical view on Danmarks Radio as
public service institute and a description of the Danish society, which was under a great
chance in that period of time. My thesis is that the revolution in the society is traceable in
the television productions from B&U. A radical chance, which also changed the way society
understood children and communication towards children in these years. To support that
thesis I have analyzed the following television programs: Legestue, Cirkeline, Sonja fra
Saxogade and Peberkværnen. Raymond Williams’ theories on the mass medias’ influence on
society will be used along with Kirsten Drotners and Beth Junckers theories on children’s
culture.
The conclusion is that the changes in the Danish society had a great influence on the
productions from B&U the first couple of years. The production team was creative and the
first productions from that period have had a great influence on children’s television today.
