In January 2003, we drove with our car from Riga
through Lithuania, Poland and Germany for the
first time – 2000 kilometres – to Harderwijk and
made this »on our own strength«.
After three years, we received our certificate as
»MARTE MEO Therapists« in February 2006. Our
training took longer than it usually is since we
could only travel to The Netherlands one or two
times a year. Therefore, it also took some time
until we were able to integrate the MARTE MEO way
of thinking in our concept and to understand how
many possibilities for development MARTE MEO
offers to us in Latvia.
More People Can Be Won For Marte Meo
When we had understood that for ourselves, everything
developed faster. We started with the first
training groups, at first for »MARTE MEO Practitioner«
and afterwards for »MARTE MEO Therapist«.
In addition, we organized the »1st MARTE MEO
Conference« in Latvia, which took place with Maria
Aarts in October 2007 in Riga. 200 attendees –
psychologists, pedagogues, social workers, doctors
and simple parents from the whole of Latvia

– came together for this conference. We were very
content that there were so many people now who
were interested in MARTE MEO.
The Marte Meo Movement In Latvia Today
Now, we are already »Licensed MARTE MEO Supervisors«
and the MARTE MEO Movement in the country
develops energetically. In the meantime, 32 »MARTE
MEO Practitioners« were trained, of whom 23 let
themselves be trained to become »MARTE MEO
Therapists«.
In January 2009, we organized the »2nd MARTE MEO
Conference« in Latvia that took place under the
title »Opening the doors for development« in Riga
again.
Now, MARTE MEO will also be introduced at the
Pedagogic College in Riga.
