This is widely known as the Holocaust
Memorial - a huge site between
the Brandenburg Gate and
Potsdamer Platz with 2,711 concrete
pillars. Despite all the gloomy
forecasts, it has become a lively
place. Some visitors think it’s a
playground and jump from one pillar
to the next, others see a field of
graves and put small stones on the
pillars. Amateur photographers rave
about the grey concrete and the
shadows, especially in the mornings
and evenings. Further associations
are possible and desirable.
Beneath the abstract memorial, you
will find the concrete history of victims
in the Information Center, with
portraits, names and biographies
read out loud.

Eine interaktive Erlebnisausstellung
rund um die Currywurst: Von
der virtuellen Zubereitung von
Currywürsten am „CurryUP!“, über
eine Gewürzkammer mit Riechorgeln,
Ketchupflaschen-Hörstationen mit
kultigen Currywurstsongs, bis zur
originalgetreuen begehbaren Imbissbude
u.v.m. Und auch der kulinarische
Genuss kommt nicht zu kurz!
An interactive and adventurous exhibition
all about the Currywurst:
From its virtual preparation at “CurryUP!”
over to the spice chamber
with its sniffing stations, then onwards
through the Ketchup bottle
audio points playing the Currywurst
oldies and ultimately step inside the
faithful replica of a vintage snack
bar, plus even more. The culinary
delight also doesn’t fall short here.

Das Deutsche Historische Museum
präsentiert sich in zwei Gebäuden:
Im barocken Zeughaus befindet
sich die ständige Ausstellung
„Deutsche Geschichte in Bildern
und Zeugnissen“, die die wechselvolle
und spannungsreiche
2.000-jährige deutsche Geschichte
im europäischen Zusammenhang
vermittelt. Ergänzt wird die ständige
Ausstellung durch wechselnde
Sonderausstellungen in der angrenzenden
modernen Ausstellungshalle
des chinesisch-amerikanischen
Architekten Ieoh Minh Pei. Das
derzeitige Ausstellungshighlight
ist „Leben nach Luther. Eine
Kulturgeschichte des evangelischen
Pfarrhauses“, das noch bis 2. März
2014 zu sehen ist.
The German Historical Museum
presents itself in two buildings: the
unique baroque Zeughaus and the
adjacent exhibition hall constructed
by famous Chinese-American architect
Ieoh Minh Pei. The 300 year-old
Zeughaus is the most important
baroque structure in Berlin and
the oldest building on Unter den
Linden. The permanent exhibition
“German History in Images and Artefacts“
is featured here, and it reflects
the change and tension-filled
German history in an international
context. 8,000 exhibits with unique
historical value tell stories of political
events and conflicts as well as
social, economical and intellectual
developments. The permanent exhibition
is complimented by changing
exhibitions in the fascinating exhibition
center with an entrance made
of glass and steel. On 4 floors, the
shaping events and various facets
of German history are presented.
The current exhibition higlight is
“Life after Luther. A Cultural History
of the Evangelical Parsonage“,
which can be seen until March 2nd
2014.

Die Mauer –
Das Asisi-Panorama
zum geteilten Berlin
Bis Ende 2013 kann man am
Checkpoint Charlie die Mauer
wieder sehen, als großes Panoramabild
von Yadegar Asisi, der zu
Mauerzeiten selbst in Kreuzberg
gewohnt hat. Von außen sieht es
aus wie ein Gasometer (18 Meter
hoch, 28 Meter Durchmesser),
innen hat man einen grandiosen
Blick auf die Mauer in Kreuzberg,
Sebastian- Ecke Luckauer Straße
an einem fiktiven Herbsttag in den
80er Jahren. Dazu hört man ein paar
wuchtige Sprachfetzen und Musik,
die leider so gar nichts mit Berlin zu
tun hat und mit ihrem dicken Pathos
genauso gut die Kubakrise oder den
Vietnamkrieg untermalen könnte.
Abgesehen von diesem akustischen
Ärgernis ist es eine schöne Art, sich
an die Wirklichkeit der Mauer zu
erinnern. Wer zu den Bildern Fakten
und Hintergrundwissen sucht,
findet sie gleich gegenüber in der
„BlackBox Kalter Krieg“, vorzugsweise
mit dem Kombiticket für beide
(12,50 €, erm. 10,50 €).
Until the end of 2013, the wall has
been raised once more at Checkpoint
Charlie, but this time it’s only
a panorama landscape by Yadegar
Asisi who also lived in Kreuzberg
when the wall was still up. From outside
it resembles a gasometer (18
meters tall and 28 meters in diameter),
but inside you have a gorgeous
view of the wall in Kreuzberg - Sebastian
and the corner of Luckauer
Straße on a fictitious autumn day in
the 80’s. In addition, there is music
and distorted sound bites that have
nothing to do with Berlin and with
its gaudy pathos could have just as
well underscored the Cuban missile
crisis or the Vietnam War. The
acoustic mishap aside, it’s a nice
way to take in the one-time reality
of the wall. Whoever needs more
info about the wall can get it right
across the street at “BlackBox Kalter
Krieg”, eg. with a ticket for both
(12,50 €, red. 10,50 €).
