Die Gedanken
sind frei
In early 2011, the “Handelsblatt” journal accepted Markus Miele and Dr.
Reinhard Zinkann, who are leading the Group in the fourth generation, into
the “Hall of Fame of Family-owned Companies.” In 2009, the Intes Academy
of Family-owned Enterprises and the industrial magazine, “Impulse,” honored
both men as Family Entrepreneurs of the Year.
Markus Miele is also chairman of the Business Association for the District of
Gütersloh.
When considering this history, Markus Miele sees
many things shrink by comparison, such as the
significance of a financial crisis, not only because
the company had weathered it in a stable manner
in its balance sheets. However, there is one major
change characterizing the most recent past: “We
have become more international.” 70% of Miele’s
sales are generated outside Germany. Since 2002,
the group has founded 15 new companies spread
all over the world, bringing the total to 47. This
means that it is not enough to know how German
housewives – and husbands – do their washing. “We
– and one of the 143 cars the company made have people on the spot in a variety of countries
before refocusing on household appliances in the who investigate competitive standards and keep us
sixties. Miele bicycles can still be seen in operation abreast of trends,” says Markus Miele. The Group
in Gütersloh, fifty years after production ended. then adapts its appliances accordingly and discovers
That his company, from the beginning, emphasized surprising cut sets, such as in the sections of baskets
quality, which had a price, and also consistency in dishwashers: “The rice bowl in Japan,” grins
and perseverance, is a source of pride to Markus Markus Miele, “is quite similar to the muesli bowl in
Miele: “We are a consistent company.” Even when Switzerland.” In the US, again, baking ovens must be
in World War II, after counterattacks by the allied big. Miele was the first company there to introduce a
forces on Nazi Germany, “almost nothing was left” display control with an automatic program assisting
of the company’s buildings, management did not people in doing the cooking. On Thanksgiving, they
waver and showed courage. This strengthened only enter the weight of their turkey, and the rest is
his resolve to continue producing machines with automatic. In Europe, on the other hand, says the
better components and of sophisticated design member of the Executive Board, “people want to
which not everybody was able to afford. Success set every control by themselves.” And the Japanese
proves him right: At EUR 2.83 billion, the company wanted to do their dishwashing cold, if possible.
achieved the highest sales in fiscal 2009/2010 since The developers of appliances, says Markus Miele,
its inception.
“feel the world.”
Gruppe zusammengefunden“, sagt Miele: „Der
