The Living Standards Award has been awarded by Austrian
Standards since 2015 to companies who exemplary use standards
and participate in the preparation of new standards.
In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Polymer
Competence Center Leoben (PCCL) entwickelte
der Lehrstuhl für Werkstoffkunde und Prüfung
der Kunststoffe (WPK) eine neuartige Prüfmethode:
Der sogenannte zyklische CRB-Test ermöglicht
erstmals eine moderne, zuverlässige
und rasche Überprüfung der Lebensdauer des
in Gas- und Wasserrohren verwendeten Kunststoffes
Polyethylen.
Standards Award ausgezeichnet.
In cooperation with the Polymer Competence
Center Leoben, the Chair of Materials
Science and Testing of Polymers developed a
novel test method: the so-called cyclic CRB
test enables for the first time a modern, reliable
and rapid inspection of the life of the
polyethylene used in gas and water pipes.
The WPK / PCCL team has now been awarded
the Living Standards Award for efforts to establish
this test method as an International
ISO standard.
Weitere Informationen zur Methode in diesem Bericht auf Seite 27.
For more information on the method, see this report on page 27.
The science2business Award honors excellent research collaborations from
industry and science.
The Fast Forward Award, the most important Styrian research price, is awarded
for the most innovative projects in business, research and development.
Specialized, cost-effective solutions for implants are becoming increasingly
important in medical technology. In this context, additive manufacturing can
make an important contribution through their geometrical and materialtechnical
flexibility.
The project „iPrint“, which has already received several awards and is carried
out by the Chair of Polymer Processing in cooperation with the Medical
University Graz and the company Hage, is involved in the development of
an additive manufacturing process (“3D printing”) of patient-specific cranial
implants. In iPrint, the implant is printed directly on the 3D printer during
the surgery. The benefits of this method are patient-tailored implants, faster
wound healing, less pain for the patient and lower costs for the health system,
since only one operation is necessary.
science2business Award
The science2business Award is primarily about the way in which the cooperation
is organized, secondly, the project itself and the results from it. For the
first time this year also a public prize was awarded. A total of 12,000 € are
award to the best cooperation of business and science. Both the public prize
and the jury‘s prize were awarded to the project „iPrint“.
Fast Forward Award
The Fast Forward Award is seen as one of the most important federal awards
for innovation in Austria. The Chair of Polymer Processing at the Montanuniversitaet
Leoben was awarded the Fast Forward Award 2016 in the category
„Institutions and Research Facilities“ together with the Medical University
Graz and the company Hage.
