Polymer Processing Society PPS Conference <strong>2015</strong> erstmalig in Österreich<br />
Regional Conference Graz <strong>2015</strong> Polymer Processing Society PPS<br />
Dem Departement für <strong>Kunststofftechnik</strong> der Montanuniversität<br />
<strong>Leoben</strong> und der Polymer Competence Center <strong>Leoben</strong> GmbH<br />
(PCCL) und ist es gelungen, die renommierte Konferenz der Polymer<br />
Processing Society (PPS) erstmalig nach Österreich zu holen.<br />
Die Polymer Processing Society wurde im März 1985 an der Universität<br />
von Akron, Ohio, USA gegründet. Der Hintergrund war,<br />
eine Plattform zur Präsentation von Forschung und Entwicklung<br />
im Rahmen der Polymerwissenschaften zu bieten. Das Ziel der Polymer<br />
Processing Society ist die Pflege von wissenschaftlichem<br />
Verständnis und technischer Innovation durch das Bereitstellen<br />
eines Forums für die weltweite Gemeinschaft der Ingenieurinnen<br />
und Ingenieure sowie Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler<br />
in diesem Gebiet. Die Themen umfassen dabei alle Prozesse, die bei<br />
polymeren Systemen angewandt werden, um sie zu synthetisieren,<br />
charakterisieren und von ihrer monomeren Form zu kommerziellen<br />
Produkten umzuwandeln.<br />
Von 21. bis 25. September <strong>2015</strong> veranstalteten das PCCL und der<br />
Lehrstuhl für Kunststoffverarbeitung unter der Leitung von Prof.<br />
Clemens Holzer die PPS<strong>2015</strong> im Messecongress Graz. Mehr als<br />
400 Vertreterinnen und Vertreter der weltweit führenden Forschungsinstitute<br />
sowie namhafter internationaler Unternehmen<br />
im Bereich der <strong>Kunststofftechnik</strong> und Polymerwissenschaften<br />
aus 32 Nationen nützten diese Branchenplattform für Fachvorträge<br />
und Diskussionen.<br />
In mehr als 300 Vorträgen wurden aktuelle Herausforderungen<br />
wie Leichtbau und Recycling und Verwendungsmöglichkeiten<br />
von Kunststoffen in der Medizin und der Pharmazie genauso behandelt<br />
wie Beiträge zu Kunststoffen für den 3-Druck, vernetzte<br />
Produktion oder die Nanotechnologie. Kein Wunder, dass diese<br />
Konferenz auch von der Kunststoffwirtschaft rege als Plattform<br />
zum Austausch über künftige Produkt- und Prozessentwicklung<br />
genutzt wurde.<br />
Damit war diese Regionale Conference die bis jetzt erfolgreichste<br />
in der Geschichte der Polymer Processing Society! 136 ausgewählte<br />
und peer-reviewed papers wurden via AIP publishing in<br />
einem Konferenzband publiziert.<br />
This extraordinary conference took place in Austria for the first<br />
time and covered all aspects of polymer engineering and science<br />
reaching from material science over process engineering<br />
to product development concerning all top-research topics such<br />
as recent advances in nanotechnology as well as functional and<br />
smart materials. The Chair of Polymer Processing and the Polymer<br />
Competence Center <strong>Leoben</strong> (PCCL) organized this conference from<br />
September 21 to 25 at Messecongress Graz and it was attended by<br />
members of academia and industry alike, from numerous representatives<br />
of the international polymer processing industry to PhD and<br />
postdoctoral researchers just as well as distinguished heads of university<br />
institutes and departments.<br />
The Polymer Processing Society was founded in March 1985 at the<br />
University of Akron, Ohio, USA. The intent was to provide a platform<br />
for presentation of research and development in the international<br />
polymer processing community. The goals of the Polymer<br />
Processing Society are to foster scientific understanding and<br />
technical innovation in polymer processing by providing a discussion<br />
forum for the worldwide community of engineers and scientists<br />
in the field. The thematic range encompasses all formulation,<br />
conversion and shaping operations applied to polymeric systems<br />
in the transformation from their monomeric forms to commercial<br />
products.<br />
This Regional Conference was so far the most successful with more<br />
than 400 participants from 32 countries. It took place in a very creative<br />
and attentive atmosphere with great presentations and vivid<br />
discussions. In 7 parallel sessions scientists and representatives from<br />
industry used the conference as a platform to discuss future developments<br />
in fields like nanocomposites, foams, textiles, additive manufacturing<br />
or materials for medicine. We got an excellent feedback<br />
from the participants, who also enjoyed the Austrian hospitality and<br />
the beautiful city of Graz.<br />
We are happy and proud that 136 full papers out of the more than<br />
300 oral presentations of the Conference were published after a reviewing<br />
process by AIP publishing. We hope that the proceedings<br />
will be a source for further fruitful discussion and scientific work!<br />
