SCHEUNENUMBAU<br />
1. An octagonal timber frame construction with<br />
double posts is filled with straw bales in a 14-day<br />
workshop.<br />
2. As in the CUT construction (see page 46), the bales<br />
are fixed with 2.5 x 2.5 cm batons.<br />
3. Hard fibre boards serve as filling aids.<br />
4. The filled straw bale walls are shaved/smoothed<br />
with hedge trimmer for plaster preparation.<br />
5. The interior is plastered directly with clay (COB).<br />
6. The outside is diagonally braced with planks at 5<br />
cm intervals (diffusion-open) against shear forces.<br />
7. The gaps between the planks are filled with clay.<br />
8. The ro<strong>of</strong> (OSB boards on rafters) is also insulated<br />
with straw bales and plastered with clay. This is<br />
later followed by a ventilated ro<strong>of</strong> cladding with<br />
EPDM foil or a sheet metal ro<strong>of</strong>.<br />
