Credits will be awarded on the basis of a number of assignments and a term

Englische Rechtssprache II
This course is designed to introduce law students and students of Anglistik
to major areas and aspects of the British legal system. Cross-references to
the US system will also be made. Reading comprehension exercises,
involving the precise and quick recognition of recurrent lexical, grammatical
and syntactic patterns, and written as well as oral assignments are meant to
consolidate and develop students´ communicative competence in a
challenging field of linguistic and cultural inquiry. Progress will be
monitored by means of brief tests, and a Klausur will conclude the course.

Contract Law will be the two major fields of inquiry. Cross-references to the
US system will also be made. Reading comprehension exercises, involving

syntactic patterns, and written as well as oral assignments are meant to
consolidate and develop students´ communicative competence in at least two
special areas of the law. Prior attendance of `Englische Rechtssprache I´ is
not obligatory though of some help. Progress will be monitored by means of
brief tests, and a Klausur will conclude the course.
