The Iliad, Odyssey, Argonautica, and Aeneid.<br />

CLAS 201<br />

Elementary Sanskrit<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

The fundamentals of Sanskrit; exercises in reading.<br />

Sanskrit is the primary language for the Hindu and<br />

Buddhist traditions and the oldest surviving member of<br />

the Indo-European language group. Students learn the<br />

Devanagari script, basic vocabulary, rules for sound<br />

combination (sandhi), and foundational grammar.<br />

CLAS 202<br />

Intermediate Sanskrit<br />

3 Semester Hours<br />

A continuation of CLAS 201. This course continues the<br />

study of Sanskrit grammar, and reading includes passages<br />

from such texts as the Yoga Sutra, the Bhagavad Gita,<br />

and the Ramayana.<br />
