Asian Pacific Student Services<br />

Asian Pacific Student Services (APSS) serves the needs of<br />

Asian Pacific American (APA) students. It strives to<br />

educate the campus about APA issues and the ethnic<br />

diversity represented within its community. APSS<br />

programs and services include an annual Cultural<br />

Welcome, a monthly Third Tuesday Series, Asian Pacific<br />

American Leadership Retreat, speakers, support for<br />

student groups, educational conferences, and community<br />

projects. APSS works closely with the Asian Pacific<br />

American community both on and off campus as well as<br />

the greater LMU community.<br />

Chicano Latino Student Services<br />

Chicano Latino Student Services (CLSS) provides<br />

culturally sensitive programs that foster and promote the<br />

academic and personal success of Latino/a students. In<br />

addition, it strives to educate the campus about Latino/a<br />

issues and the ethnic diversity represented within the<br />

community (i.e., Central and South America, Caribbean,<br />

and Mexico).<br />

CLSS programs include Bienvenida Latina—the Latino<br />

Fall Welcome, Leadership Roundtable Meetings, Latino<br />

Leadership Retreat, Latin America’s Independences Days<br />

Celebration—Day of Pride!, Latino Spiritual Retreat,<br />

Middle/High School Visit to LMU, Latino Leadership<br />

Legacy Week, POWER TRIPS (i.e., museums, community<br />

resource centers, entertainment/theatre, restaurants,<br />

speakers, etc.), Dia de Reconocimiento (Latino graduation<br />

ceremonies), Latino Resource Handbook, and Weekly E-<br />

CLSS Newsletter, among others. CLSS also offers student<br />

advocacy, personal support, assistance for Latino/a<br />

student groups, and transitional/beyond LMU<br />

programming. CLSS programs and services also cinsider<br />

gender, class, religion/spirituality, bi-monolingual,<br />

generational, sexual orientation, and bi-racial/ethnic<br />

identities, among other factors.<br />

Intercultural Affairs<br />

Intercultural Affairs works with students and staff to<br />

create a learning environment that encourages greater<br />

awareness, understanding, and interaction among diverse<br />

groups. Its mission is to empower all members of the<br />

campus community as agents of social change committed<br />

to a vision of justice.<br />

Intercultural Affairs sponsors/offers programs that include<br />

Spring Festival, an intercultural retreat, intercultural<br />

leadership training, speakers, educational forums, and<br />

intercultural conversations.<br />

Office of Black Student Services<br />

The Office of Black Student Services (OBSS) works to<br />

promote a positive campus environment that supports the<br />

academic and personal success of African American<br />

students. OBSS programs and services include an annual<br />

Fall Welcome, Student Retreat, Kente Graduation, Black<br />

History Month events, speakers, cultural enrichment<br />

programs, community activities, support for student<br />

groups, student advocacy, and personal support. OBSS<br />

also strives to build close ties with the local African<br />

American community.<br />

Campus Recreation<br />

The state-of-the-art Fritz B. Burns Recreation Center<br />

houses the Department of Campus Recreation. The<br />

department continually strives to meet the recreational<br />

needs of the LMU community.<br />

The award-winning Burns Recreation Center is comprised<br />

of a 7,000 square foot weight room containing free<br />

weights, individual weight machines, treadmills,<br />

Lifecycles, StairMasters, and elliptical machines. The<br />

Main Gym accommodates two courts of basketball or<br />

volleyball, while the upstairs gym is a single court used for<br />

recreation or special events. Two multipurpose rooms are<br />

located upstairs and provide space for aerobics,<br />

kickboxing, yoga, spinning, and more. A new outdoor 50meter<br />

pool is located steps from the men’s and women’s<br />

locker rooms. A games area is available for table tennis,<br />

pool, foosball, and video games. A variety of sports<br />

equipment, energy bars, and beverages are available for<br />

purchase at the conveniently located pro shop.<br />

Intramural Sports provides a wide range of structured<br />

sports and activities such as flag football, volleyball,<br />

soccer, basketball, and more. The Intramural Sports<br />

philosophy is “play for fun,” and everyone is welcome to<br />

participate regardless of ability.<br />

Fitness and Wellness Classes are available throughout the<br />

year. These programs allow individuals to drop in for an<br />

aerobics class, learn self defense in a kickboxing class, or<br />

stretch and relax with a yoga session. Nutritional<br />

seminars, weight training clinics, and advice from<br />

personal trainers are also available.<br />

The Aquatics program provides a variety of opportunities<br />

including swimming laps, water aerobics and exercise,<br />

and a learn-to-swim program. Whether looking to improve<br />

your technique or just to swim some laps, the new 50meter<br />

pool is the place to be.<br />

The Club Sports program offers LMU students the chance<br />

to compete against club teams from other universities.<br />

Competitive Club Sport opportunities currently exist for
