Community/Organizational: This concentration<br />

emphasizes the application of psychological<br />

theory and research to communities and<br />

organizations. Students will select four of the<br />

following courses (no more than two courses may<br />

be taken from the PSYC 300 series): PSYC 301,<br />

315, 320, 330, 362, 432, 433, 442, 445,<br />

462.<br />

5. Capstone Course: PSYC 510 or 515.<br />

Prerequisites: All required courses completed or<br />

currently in progress.<br />

6. Senior Assessment: PSYC 595. Prerequisite:<br />

Concurrent enrollment in PSYC 510 or 515, or<br />

completed with a grade of C (2.0) or higher.<br />

Students may take an additional 6 semester hours of<br />

upper division psychology courses and have them count<br />

as electives. Students may not take more than 30<br />

semester hours of upper division psychology courses.<br />

Honors in Psychology<br />

To qualify for the Honors in Psychology program, a<br />

Psychology major must have senior status (completed 90<br />

units or more), a minimum overall GPA of 3.5, and a<br />

Psychology GPA ranking in the top 10% of senior<br />

psychology majors. Eligible students enroll in the Honors<br />

Seminar (PSYC 540) in the Fall of their senior year and<br />

complete the Honors Research Thesis (PSYC 545) in the<br />

Spring of their senior year. The Honors Seminar is a<br />

prerequisite for the Honors Research Thesis. Both PSYC<br />

540 and PSYC 545 are in addition to the 24 semester<br />

hours of upper division course work required of majors.<br />

Senior Assessment<br />

All senior students majoring in Psychology are required to<br />

register for and take the Senior Assessment (PSYC 595)<br />

prior to graduating. The assessment is offered each<br />

semester and summer.<br />

A grade of C (2.0) or higher must be obtained in major<br />

courses. Psychology majors are prohibited from taking<br />

400-level or higher psychology courses before completing<br />

all lower division Psychology major requirements.<br />

Exceptions to this policy may be made only with the prior<br />

consent of the Psychology Department Chairperson.<br />

All courses fulfilling lower division pre-major and major<br />

requirements, PSYC 401 or 402, PSYC 410, and PSYC<br />

415 must be taken at <strong>Loyola</strong> <strong>Marymount</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Transfer students are exempt from this requirement only<br />

for those courses they have completed prior to admission<br />

to <strong>Loyola</strong> <strong>Marymount</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Students may not register for any Psychology course for a<br />

third time without the written permission of the<br />

Psychology Department Chairperson and the Dean of the<br />

Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts.<br />

Minor Requirements:<br />

BIOL 150; MATH 104; PHIL 220; PSYC 100 or<br />

101, 241, 243, 251, 261, 265; and at least two<br />

of the following upper division courses: PSYC<br />

401, 402, 410, 415, or any 300-level PSYC<br />

course. Courses are selected in consultation with<br />

the Psychology Department Chairperson. A grade<br />

of C (2.0) or higher must be obtained in minor<br />

courses. All courses fulfilling minor requirements<br />

must be taken at <strong>Loyola</strong> <strong>Marymount</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Transfer students are exempt from this<br />

requirement only for those courses they have<br />

completed prior to admission to <strong>Loyola</strong><br />

<strong>Marymount</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Psychology Model Four-Year Plan<br />

The normal course load is 15 units per semester (5<br />

classes). By following the model below, a student will<br />

complete all lower division core requirements by the end<br />

of the sophomore year as well as most major<br />

prerequisites. Note that core areas are suggested to<br />

provide a distribution of various disciplines every<br />

semester. Please be flexible implementing these<br />

suggestions, given your own interests and course<br />

availability. In four years, this plan meets all common<br />

graduation requirements.<br />
