After an extensive search, David was the standout candidate. David has the England Squash level 3 qualification and comes to us with over 10 years of coaching experience highlights of which include head professional positions at two of northern England’s premier squash clubs as well as England Squash performance coach and academy director. David will be a great addition to our professional team. The immigration process is well underway and we hope to have David here in February at the latest. I hope you will all join us in welcoming David to our club and making his transition to life in Calgary a smooth as possible. tournamEnt round-up Jester’s Junior Championships The annual Junior Jester’s was once again hosted by the Glenora Club Edmonton. This event is designated by Squash Canada as a core event meaning the entry list is much stronger than for a regular junior tournament provincially. With over 150 of the best juniors in Canada in attendance competition was always going to be fierce. Our juniors performed admirably coming out with the best results of any of the clubs taking part. Particular note should go to Hannah Treleaven, Noel Heaton and Jay Peris who won their events; Jarrett Peris who was second in his; and William Kuhn, Brett Schille, Graham Kerford and Tyson Schille who came third in theirs. world Health Edgemont Junior Open The World Health Club Edgemont hosted the second of the local junior events. Our junior program was, as always, well represented with 27 juniors from the CWC in attendance. After a couple of days of high class squash, our juniors came away with some great results. F e b r u a r y 2 0 1 2 Calgary Open The Glencoe Club hosted this year’s prestigious annual Calgary Open. With a strong field from across Alberta every draw was bound to be tough. After a long weekend of top squash the champions were crowned. Congratulations to all Winter Club members who took part, in particular, champion Susie King and runners up Neil Pohlman, Ian Sefton, Brett Schille, Hannah Treleaven, Kelly Clements and Emilie Heaton. Bankers Hall no frills As usual, the Bankers Hall event sold out in record time _ a combination of excellent value for money and a downtown venue seems to trigger a real buzz in the squash community. 123 players registered, a total sell out. With the perfect combination of great squash and a relaxed social atmosphere the event was a true success. Congratulations to all CWC members who took part, in particular Ian Sefton who dominated the men’s level 2 category. upcoming EVEnts turkey Burner Adult squash social To celebrate the new year and burn off the Christmas festivities, food and beverage that we all enjoyed way too much, we are hosting a fun adult squash social on January 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The format will be decided closer to the date with an email reminder to everyone about the event. To register please visit GameTime. Adult Beginner/ intermediate squash social This event on January 20 th is open to anyone who is new to squash, or who has played a little in the past and would like to get on court for a fun non-competitive mini tournament. This is a great way to get into a new sport in a social environment with people the same level as you. To register for the event, please visit GameTime.
