Skating Professionals
Tina-Marie yenna | Director of Skating
When Tina-Maria Yenna started at the Calgary Winter Club in 2009 she was hired on as a part time figure
skating coach. It didn’t take long for Tina-Marie to grab the attention of not only the members but her
colleagues and the Club’s senior managers as well. In just a few short months Tina-Marie moved from a part
time figure skating coach to a full time administrator and figure skating professional. Tina-Marie’s attention to
detail, energy and dedication is now the driving force behind the entire Skating Section.
Prior to coming to the Calgary Winter Club, Tina-Marie was on tour with Disney on Ice for a period of twelve
months. This was an extremely fun and exciting time for Tina-Marie; traveling the world and doing what she
loves to do - skate! “The perks and the opportunity to travel the world really made living out of a suitcase
worth it for those twelve months,” states Yenna. Tina-Marie got into Disney on Ice at a Canadian National
competition where she was scouted to join the team. After a successful and rewarding experience Tina-Marie
returned to Calgary; she knew that Calgary was always going to be her home base.
Down the road Tina-Marie does see a great deal of positive growth happening at the Club, “I would like to
turn the CWC into a competitive Skating Club, and bring a little more oomph to the entire Skating Section,”
states Yenna.
The Calgary Winter Club is extremely lucky to have Tina-Marie Yenna as the Director of Skating. Tina-Marie
comes to work every day with a smile on her face and enjoys working with each member to help them realize
their skating potential. “I strive to help each skater be the absolute best they can be,” states Yenna. The
Calgary Winter Club has always had a great Skating Section, with dedicated professionals and enthusiastic
skaters, and with Tina-Marie leading the team there is no telling what heights can be reached!
linda Higgins | Artistic Coordinator/Skating Professional
Linda Higgins has been a member of the Calgary Winter Club Skating team for over ten years and has taught
everything from group and private lessons to high level competitive testing. Linda really loves the creative
and artistic aspect of skating; she loves to see things develop into the bigger picture.
Linda skated competitively for over 7 years and also had the privilege of skating with Disney on Ice and
the Ice Capades from 2001 until the end of 2002. Her experience and background provided her with the
knowledge and teaching skills to help bring our young skaters to the next level. “With anything you do, the
more you practice, the more comfortable it becomes. This is when you really start to see the rewards of your
hard work,” states Higgins.
Moving forward Linda would like to see the Club, and our skaters, really utilize the facilities that are available.
“There is so much potential with the Fitness Centre and studios that our skaters can really benefit from,”
states Higgins. The Club is very fortunate to have the creativity and experience that Linda brings to the table
and our skaters will continue to grow and learn under her teaching and direction.
natasha Taylor | Skating Professional
Natasha Taylor came to the Calgary Winter Club approximately 4 years ago as an administrator, payroll
assistant and Skating Coach. Natasha has incredible skating talents and is a key contributor to our Skating
Section. Currently Natasha teaches private lessons and some spin classes; she also coaches the Junior Group
and the Figure 8 Club.
During her time here at the Calgary Winter Club, Natasha has had the opportunity to compete in some very
high level competitions. In 2009 Natasha competed at the Canadian Nationals, in the Triathlon division, which
combines free skate, interpretive and skating skills all into one multi-segmented event. Natasha also had the
privilege to represent Canada at the 2010 World Adult Championships in the same event. Way to Go Natasha!
Natasha has a special place in her heart for the kids at the Calgary Winter Club, and this is one of the main
reasons why she loves teaching here. “I love the kids at the Club and the access to ice time is a real bonus
when teaching all of our students,” states Taylor. With Natasha’s wide range of skating skills and knowledge
the Junior Skaters at the Club are in very good hands.
