specific technology for each component, as well as drawing the<br />

scenario for its future growth, especially in regard to how it<br />

might affect society and what its position might be in<br />

society. Technology development for each component would<br />

be assigned to different groups. <strong>The</strong> engine would be<br />

developed by the Engine Engineering Division II. <strong>The</strong><br />

hybrid transaxle would be developed by the Drive Train<br />

Engineering Division. <strong>The</strong> battery and motor would be<br />

developed by the Electric Vehicle Division (which was<br />

consolidated with BR-VF in April 1997 and reorganized as<br />

Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Engineering Division). <strong>The</strong><br />

brakes would be developed by the Chassis Components<br />

Engineering Division II.<br />

In addition, auto evaluation engineers of Vehicle<br />

Evaluation & Engineering Division II and others were to<br />

work jointly with BR-VF Production technology groups,<br />

including the Power Train & Chassis Components<br />

Production Engineering Division, the Production<br />

Engineering Development Division, and the IT Engineering<br />

Division would have direct involvement with BR-VF,<br />

contributing as the second development division for creating<br />

THS.<br />

Electronics Engineering Divisions II & IV and Hirose<br />

Plant were to take charge of the development and production<br />

of inverters, including semiconductors.<br />

<strong>The</strong> G21 group (reorganized as Product Planning Group<br />

"Zi" in January 1996) led by Chief Engineer<br />
