Stage III: Web Site Development
• Information.structure:.The project goal was to create a one-stop Web site
containing information related to the Somali experience in Minnesota. Visitors
to the Web site could be either Somali immigrants in need of basic information
or non-Somalis who are interested in learning more about their community.
With that premise in mind, the authors divided the Web site’s information into
three main categories (see Figure 1).
1. Information for Somali immigrants about life in Minnesota. Based on
the focus group discussions, this information was grouped into eleven
categories: (1.1) Immigration, (1.2) Legal Rights and Responsibilities,
(1.3) Identification Documents, (1.4) Public Benefits, (1.5) Employment
Resources, (1.6) Learning English, (1.7) Housing Information, (1.8)
Transportation, (1.9) Personal Finance, (1.10) Healthcare, and (1.11)
Education.
2. Information for the general public about the history of Somalia and Somalis
living in Minnesota.
