Program Overview: Applicants for lecturing<br />

and lecturing/research awards should be<br />

available for at least one semester. In some<br />

cases, requested grant lengths may need to<br />

be adjusted at the discretion of the Fulbright<br />

Program. The first semester begins in<br />

September, with preference for arrival in late<br />

August. The second semester begins in January.<br />

coordinates Department of <strong>State</strong> exchanges<br />

with neighboring island nations Dominica, St.<br />

Lucia, St.Vincent and Grenadines, Antigua<br />

and Barbuda, St.Kitts and Nevis and Grenada.<br />

Dominica <strong>State</strong> College, founded in 2002,<br />

provides training in teacher education, health<br />

sciences, tourism, business and vocational<br />

Program Overview: Academic year is from<br />

February to November with a break from<br />

mid-June to mid-July. Awards are open to<br />

faculty with 3 years of experience in the field<br />

or professionals with equivalent experience.<br />

Preference will be given to those who can build<br />

and strengthen linkages between U.S. and<br />

Bolivian institutions. Until further notice, only<br />

serial grants will be awarded, which allow the<br />

grant to be divided into shorter in-country stays<br />

for 2 to 3 months over 2 or 3 consecutive years.<br />

Grant Activity: Applicants may propose research<br />

projects, lecturing projects or a combination of<br />

both. Lecturing and lecturing/research grantees<br />

are expected to conduct seminars, advise on<br />

university curriculum or provide other assistance<br />

as requested by the host institution. All grantees<br />

may be asked to deliver occasional public<br />

lectures.<br />

Specialization(s): While applications in any<br />

discipline will be considered, preference will<br />

be given to projects that fall within the Bolivia<br />

program’s priority areas: democratization (civil<br />

society development, civic education, NGO<br />

strengthening); economic development (broadbased<br />

growth); public health; environmental<br />

issues (sustainable development, ecology);<br />

American studies; education (including<br />

curriculum reform) and rural development.<br />

Language: Fluent Spanish is required; applicants<br />

must submit a language proficiency report.<br />

Comments: Grants can be divided into 2-3<br />
