United Kingdom n.a. Fulbright (All Disciplines) Awards provide<br />
a monthly stipend of 2,500 pounds sterling<br />
for 3-10 month projects (a maximum grant<br />
amount of 25,000 pounds). Fulbright-<br />
Cardiff University Awards provide a<br />
monthly stipend of 1,500 pounds sterling<br />
for 4-10 month grant periods (projects<br />
may be up to 12 months long; a maximum<br />
grant amount of 15,000 pounds). Fulbright<br />
Criminal Justice and Police Research<br />
Fellowships provide a monthly stipend of<br />
2,000 pounds sterling for 3-5 month grant<br />
periods. Police applicants must have full<br />
or partial financial support from their home<br />
departments. The Fulbright-King’s College<br />
London Research Award provides 10,000<br />
pounds sterling for 3-6 month projects<br />
(4 month minimum projects preferred).<br />
The Fulbright-Queen’s University Belfast<br />
Anglophone Irish Writing Award and the<br />
Fulbright-Queen’s University Belfast<br />
Creative Writing Award each provide<br />
15,000 pounds sterling for 6-month<br />
projects. The Fulbright-Queen’s University<br />
Belfast Governance Award (6-12 month<br />
projects) and the Fulbright-University of<br />
Ulster Policy Studies Award (3-12 month<br />
projects) each provide 12,500 pounds<br />
sterling regardless of project duration.<br />
The Fulbright-Liverpool University<br />
Distinguished Scholar Award provides<br />
15,000 pounds sterling maximum for a 6<br />
month period. All grants are intended as<br />
a contribution towards travel and general<br />
expenses incurred during the recipient’s<br />
time in the UK, including any work permit<br />
fees. Grants are paid in installments<br />
directly to the grantee, the first of which is<br />
typically given upon arrival in the UK in the<br />
form of a check. Opening a bank account<br />
in the UK can take up to 10 working days<br />
and candidates may not have access to<br />
their funding until an account is set up.<br />
Candidates should arrange to receive<br />
sabbatical pay while away to meet any<br />
additional expenses. There is no additional<br />
funding for dependents. In addition,<br />
grantees will be responsible for arranging<br />
their own housing and should contact<br />
their host institutions’ accommodation or<br />
international office for assistance. During<br />
2008 the exchange rate was typically<br />
between $1=.67 pounds and $1=.47<br />
pounds.<br />

n.a. n.a. All grantees will receive free membership in the British Fulbright<br />
Scholars Association (the UK-based Fulbright alumni organization,<br />
www.bfsa.org), the Royal Society of Arts (www.thersa.org) and the<br />
English Speaking Union (www.esu.org). Grantees will be entitled<br />
to participate in events throughout the year and to use these<br />
organizations’ facilities (libraries, restaurants, lecture halls, etc). In<br />
addition, grantees are invited to attend a 2-day welcome orientation in<br />
September and a 5-day enrichment program in January, both of which<br />
comprise lectures, panel discussions and social events designed to<br />
help grantees better understand the UK and its relation with the rest<br />
of the world. Throughout the year, there are additional opportunities<br />
to meet experts in many industries on a more informal level.<br />
