Comments: Moscow <strong>State</strong> University is one<br />
of Russia’s most distinguished universities and<br />
has played host to the Sivachev Distinguished<br />
Chair since its inception over 30 years ago. The<br />
Russia Fulbright Office has recently signed a<br />
memorandum of cooperation with Moscow<br />
<strong>State</strong> University to solidify the long-standing<br />
relationship between both institutions, and future<br />
Sivachev Chair faculty will have an opportunity<br />
to further develop this distinguished position<br />

Grant Activity: Teach specialized courses in<br />
alternative energy technology. Collaborate on<br />
teaching or research with department faculty.<br />
Advise doctoral students on ongoing and new<br />
research projects. Consult on curricula. Advise<br />
on establishing networking and exchanges with<br />
the grantee’s home university. The grantee<br />
is expected to give an inaugural address.<br />
Opportunities to give lectures at other Swedish<br />
universities and outside Sweden will be available.<br />
Final grant requirements will be discussed with<br />
the host institution.<br />
Specialization(s): Alternative energy technology,<br />
to include a broad range of fields. Preferred<br />
specialization in one or more of the following<br />
fields: car technology and transportation<br />
(biofuels, ethanol, biodiesel, battery technology,<br />
lightweight carbon fiber technology) and<br />
power generation (conversion of wind power to<br />
kilowatts, solar energy into cost-effective energy,<br />
clean coal power plants, carbon sequestration).<br />
These fields represent the host institution’s major<br />
areas of research. Specialization in at least one<br />
of these fields will increase the opportunity for<br />
productive and sustained collaboration.<br />
Additional Qualifications: Ph.D., 5 years of<br />
lecturing and research on alternative energy,<br />
preferably rank of professor. Professionals<br />
and researchers from research institutes and<br />
corporations will be considered.<br />
Language: English is sufficient.<br />

Comments: Chalmers University of Technology<br />
in Goteborg was founded in 1829. Their study<br />
programs focus on technology, natural sciences<br />
and architecture. There are 10,600 students and<br />

2,245 full-time positions, of which 1,500 are<br />
teachers and researchers. They strive to increase<br />
cooperation with the surrounding community<br />
both in applied research and by joining research<br />
and commercialization. The Volvo Group and<br />
Volvo Car Corporation, also located in Goteborg,<br />
are key collaborators and provide funding for<br />
30 doctoral students in three engineering fields.<br />
In 2005, Chalmers participated in 139 EU<br />
projects, attracted attention for their cutting edge<br />
research with quantum computers and carbon<br />
isotope C-12 and launched their first “Energy<br />
Flagship” program on “Near-Term Pathways<br />

on the west coast, Goteborg is Sweden’s second<br />
largest city and Scandinavia’s largest port.<br />
Goteborg has a population of 496,000 residents<br />

IN PUBLIC INTERNATIONAL LAW<br />

Grant Activity: Lecture in the human rights<br />
master’s programs on international law,<br />
international organizations, civil and political<br />
rights, regional systems like the Organization<br />
of American <strong>State</strong>s, humanitarian law, refugee<br />
law, minority and indigenous rights, intellectual<br />
property rights and international labor standards.<br />
Teach in human rights training courses in Lund<br />
and abroad on topics such as civil and political<br />
rights, good governance and anti-corruption<br />
efforts, and human rights of women. Supervise<br />
master’s students in their thesis research and<br />
writing, and tutor for moot court competitions.<br />
The grantee may also participate in collaborative<br />
research with department faculty.<br />
Additional Qualifications: Ph.D. in law or in a<br />
closely related field and 5-10 years of experience.<br />

Comments: Founded in 1666, Lund University<br />
is now the largest site of higher education and<br />
research in the Nordic countries, with its 42,500<br />
students and 6,000 faculty and staff. The Raoul<br />
Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and<br />
Humanitarian <strong>Law</strong> (RWI) is an independent<br />
academic institution, established in 1984, which<br />
promotes human rights through research, training<br />
and education. It has one of the largest human<br />
rights libraries in northern Europe. The RWI<br />
offers a 2-year undergraduate program in human<br />

rights, and two master’s programs, one of which<br />
is in international human rights law and the<br />
other in human rights and intellectual property<br />
rights law. The RWI offers human rights capacity<br />
building programs in Sweden and abroad, carries<br />
out applied or policy-based research, and issues<br />
five series of publications as well as related books<br />

of Lund, situated in the dynamic Oresund region<br />
in southern Sweden, is one of the oldest cities in<br />
Sweden. It has approximately 100,500 residents<br />

a university education (58 percent) than the<br />
national average (29 percent).<br />

expected to give an inaugural lecture during the<br />

Swedish universities and outside Sweden will<br />
be available. Grantee may also participate in<br />
collaborative research with department faculty.<br />

Comments: The city of Uppsala has more<br />
than 180,000 residents, is the fourth largest<br />
municipality in Sweden and is located 45 miles<br />
from Stockholm. Uppsala University is the oldest<br />
university in Scandinavia. With its nine faculties<br />
of law, theology, medicine, pharmacy, arts,<br />
educational sciences, languages, social sciences,<br />
and science and technology, Uppsala University<br />
offers its students more than 40 programs of study<br />
and independent courses. The Swedish Institute<br />
for North American Studies, established in 1985,<br />
is a research institute located at the Department of<br />
English with three main objectives: (1) to conduct<br />
and promote research in American studies; (2)<br />
to coordinate the efforts of scholars in varying<br />
American studies disciplines; (3) to arrange<br />
courses, lectures and conferences on related<br />
