Summary: Up to twelve awards, contingent upon<br />

availability of funds.<br />

Program Overview: Senior lecturing and<br />

research awards are from 3-5 months, according<br />

to the scholar’s availability and the decision of<br />

the final selection committee in Spain, and in the<br />

case of lecturers, the needs of the host institution<br />

as mutually agreed with the scholar. Professional<br />

journalist awards are for 3 months. Generally,<br />

the fall semester begins in late September, and<br />

the spring semester begins in mid-February.<br />

Prospective applicants may contact the Spanish<br />

Fulbright Commission for further information:<br />

fulbright.es. A student visa (visado de estudios<br />

or de estudiante) is mandatory for U.S. citizens<br />

on Fulbright awards for cultural exchange<br />

activities of three months or longer. Scholars also<br />

apply under this category. The Commission will<br />

provide detailed information and documentation<br />

for obtaining this initial visa from a Spanish<br />

consulate in the United <strong>State</strong>s or other country,<br />

and after the grantee’s arrival, for obtaining the<br />

card of official student status for the duration<br />

of the grant. Cosponsorship from the Catalan<br />

Regional Government provides for awards,<br />

subject to availability of funds, in Catalonia.<br />
