Ostend is nearer than many of the British resorts featured elsewhere in
our brochure and makes an ideal short break destination. Today we think
of it primarily as a seaside resort - it was the height of fashion in the
Edwardian period - due to its miles of fine sandy beaches and excellent
bathing facilities. But Ostend is also an ancient town with a lively and
historic port, the “Gateway to the Continent”. It was the scene of a three
year siege in the early seventeenth century and suffered severe damage
in the Second World War. Today it is devoted to more tranquil pursuits
and offers a wide variety of entertainments to suit all tastes from the
excitement of the famous “Kursaal” casino and the racecourse to the
lively cafés and bars. There is a famous market, a profusion of shops,
lovely quiet parks and a splendid promenade.

Full Day to Bruges, the “Venice of the
North”. We include a guided walking
tour of this splendidly preserved medieval
town which has a wealth of historic
buildings dating mainly from the 13th,
14th and 15th centuries and there is also
some excellent shopping.
Full Day to Brussels. We include a
guided tour of Belgium’s capital which
has been a major trading centre since the
11th century and boasts many fabulous
medieval buildings including those on the
spectacular Grand Place. As the centre of
the European Community it is also a
vibrant modern city.

in Ostend we visit the famous Keukenhof Gardens, the largest flower
garden in Europe. Walking through the gardens you will experience
strong scents from the tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and other varieties
