7.4. SMS: Short Message Services<br />
• Short Message Services (SMS) is a feature-rich GSM service. The Enfora <strong>Enabler</strong> <strong>II</strong>I-G module<br />
can perform the following tasks:<br />
• Sending and receiving binary messages of up to 160 characters (7-bit characters)<br />
• Sending and receiving text messages of up to 140 bytes (8-bit data)<br />
• Submitting a SMS Protocol Data Unit (PDU) to a SMSC (Short Message Service Center) and<br />
storing a copy of the PDU until either a report arrives from the network or a timer expires<br />
• Receiving a SMS PDU from a SMSC<br />
• Returning a delivery report to the network for a previously received message<br />
• Receiving a report from the network<br />
• Notifying the network when the module has sufficient memory capacity available to receive one or<br />
more SMS messages (after the module had previously rejected a message because its memory<br />
capacity was exceeded)<br />
