<strong>The</strong> <strong>Baynard</strong>s of <strong>Lackham</strong><br />
<strong>Baynard</strong>’s are known in several places in the country - an early name<br />
for Bromsgrove, in Worcestershire, is given as “<strong>Baynard</strong>esgove” 18<br />
for example but they were mainly located in the east of the<br />
country. <strong>The</strong>ir main manor in the twelfth century was at Dunmow<br />

<strong>The</strong> Wiltshire line of the <strong>family</strong> was established by Edmund <strong>Baynard</strong><br />
the third son of William <strong>Baynard</strong> of Great Dunmow in Essex.<br />
William was the son of Thomas and Joan <strong>Baynard</strong>. Edmund’s eldest<br />
brother, John, died in 1362 without issue and Gt Dunmow was<br />
inherited by the second son, Thomas.<br />
Edmund <strong>Baynard</strong> bought a grant from Edward III to hunt in the<br />
Royal Forest of Pewsham<br />
