<strong>The</strong> <strong>Baynard</strong>s of <strong>Lackham</strong><br />

Edward Reade had married Robert’s younger sister Anne 318<br />

Ursula died in November 1623 319 and Robert erected another fine<br />

memorial to her, similar to that which he had made for his father.<br />

<strong>The</strong> inscription says<br />

herelyeth the body of the lady<br />

Ursula <strong>Baynard</strong>, daughter of Sir<br />

Robert Stapilton of Wyghall in the<br />

county of Yorks Knight, and wife<br />

to Sir Robert <strong>Baynard</strong> Knight, by<br />

whom she had issue Edward her<br />

Sonne here buryed, and Maryhir<br />

daughter, sheelyved to the age<br />

of 36 years, and departted to God<br />

in most firmefayth in Christ, in<br />

the year of our Lords God 1623<br />

<strong>The</strong> monument is painted on oak and has, like the one to Edward<br />

<strong>Baynard</strong>, many heraldic devices around the edge relating to Ursula’s<br />

ancestry.<br />

It appears that after Ursula’s death in November 1623 Robert<br />

didn’t re-marry.<br />

It has been suggested 320 that “He formed an association with<br />

another woman earlier in life and that union had dogged his<br />

existence most of his life” 321 . It would appear that there might<br />
