<strong>The</strong> <strong>Baynard</strong>s<br />

<strong>The</strong> Ludlow <strong>family</strong> had a connection with the early settlement of<br />

America; George Ludlow, born in 1596 at Denton, Wiltshire, owned<br />

land in Virginia in the early days of the Colony there. His arms are<br />

the same as those given for Elizabeth 121 . At his death in 1656 he<br />

owned a “sixteenth part of the Shipp Mayflower, whereof Captain<br />

William White is commander” 122 as well as land in the Virginian<br />

colony. <strong>The</strong> Whites were a prominent local <strong>family</strong> with extensive<br />

estates in the Grittleton / Malmesbury area<br />
