<strong>The</strong> <strong>Baynard</strong>s<br />
Of all their children only the names of four of their sons are known<br />
- their eldest, Philip, Roger, Henry and the second eldest, George<br />
(who is shown on the brass as a priest), and three of their five<br />
daughters, Elizabeth, Jane and Joan.<br />
Philip is shown on the brass as a larger figure to his siblings, as was<br />
normal at the time, to show his importance as the heir.<br />

is of interest because it is normal for clerics to be shown<br />
with university hood and cape, whereas George has a short<br />
scarf thrown over the shoulders and fastened by a button.<br />
Heines 144 notes only ten instances of the hood worn like<br />
this between 1500 and 1530 and this is the earliest<br />
