HMA surface. The plate on another end was above the HMA surface <strong>and</strong> used for seating a<br />

displacement transducer for measurement. Two small holes measuring 8 mm in diameter were<br />

drilled on the loading plate <strong>and</strong> the tell-tales were run through these pre-drilled holes. Figure<br />

3.10 shows a picture <strong>of</strong> displacement transducers, as well as tell-tales.<br />

3.6.4 Data Acquisition<br />

Smart Dynamic Strain Recorder DC-204R, manufactured by Tokyo Sokki Kenkyujo,<br />

Co., Ltd., Japan, was used <strong>to</strong> record the data from earth pressure cells, strain gauges, <strong>and</strong><br />

displacement transducers. There were four recorders used during the tests. One data recorder<br />

served as a master recorder <strong>and</strong> the remaining three served as slaves, which were synchronized<br />

with the master recorder through connections. Each recorder had four connection ports <strong>to</strong> strain<br />
