DRUG POLICY<br />

Policy Name: <strong>Over</strong>-<strong>the</strong>-counter (OTC) <strong>and</strong> <strong>Prescription</strong> (Rx) Drug Policy<br />

1. POLICY<br />

1.1 The following behaviors are prohibited:<br />

1.1.1 Using a prescription (Rx) medication that is not legally prescribed for <strong>the</strong> employee.<br />

1.1.2 Using a Rx or over-<strong>the</strong>-counter (OTC) medication in excess of <strong>the</strong> prescribed dosage.<br />

1.1.3 Using any medication that contains alcohol within four (4) hours before performing safety-<br />

sensitive functions.<br />

1.1.4 Using any medication that adversely impacts <strong>the</strong> employee’s ability to safely perform his/her<br />

safety-sensitive job functions.<br />

1.2 The Maryl<strong>and</strong> Transit Administration (MTA) requires that all safety-sensitive employees obtain a<br />

completed form 1C1 (sample form attached) from <strong>the</strong>ir physician for each Rx medication prescribed for<br />

use while in working status indicating whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong>y should be medically disqualified from performing<br />

safety-sensitive functions during <strong>the</strong> duration of <strong>the</strong> treatment.<br />

1.2.1 Employees in possession of a form 1C1 disqualifying <strong>the</strong>m from performing safety-sensitive<br />

duties are to convey <strong>the</strong> form to <strong>the</strong>ir immediate supervisor to explain <strong>the</strong>ir absence. This form<br />

will be acceptable in lieu of having <strong>the</strong> “Physician’s Section” of <strong>the</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ard sick leave<br />

application completed.<br />

Note: The regular sick leave application still has to be completed (all but <strong>the</strong> Physician’s<br />

Section). Just attach <strong>the</strong> 1C1, which will serve <strong>the</strong> purpose of <strong>the</strong> Physician’s Section.<br />
