A7.32.4. Medication prescribed by a flight surgeon which may be used without removal from flying<br />
duty once <strong>the</strong> potential for idiosyncratic reaction has been excluded.<br />
A7.32.4.1. Isoniazid for prophylactic <strong>the</strong>rapy of tuberculin converters who do not have active<br />
tuberculosis. Minimum of 7 days ground trial.<br />
A7.32.4.2. Oral contraceptives, implantable timed release progestin, injectable sustained duration<br />
progestin (for contraception only), estrogen alone or with progestin, as replacement <strong>the</strong>rapy. Minimum<br />
of 28 days ground trial is required. Changes of dosage or br<strong>and</strong> requires an additional<br />
28-day observation period.<br />
A7.32.4.3. Chloroquine phosphate, primaquine phosphate, or doxycycline (100 mg daily) for<br />
antimalarial prophylaxis. Single dose ground trial is advised.<br />
A7.32.4.4. Pyridostigmine for chemical warfare prophylaxis. Single dose ground trial is advised.<br />
A7.32.4.5. Scopolamine alone or in combination with dextroamphetamine or ephedrine for airsickness<br />
in formal flying training programs. Not authorized for solo flight.<br />
A7.32.4.6. Doxycycline (100mg) administered twice a day for 5 days may be used to treat mild<br />
diarrhea. Doxycycline may also be used for prophylaxis against diarrhea in deployed personnel.<br />
One hundred milligrams should be administered daily during <strong>the</strong> period of exposure <strong>and</strong> for at<br />
least 2 days following exposure, with <strong>the</strong> total period of use not to exceed 2 weeks.<br />
A7.32.4.7. Topical antibiotics for control of acne.<br />
A7.32.4.8. Topical tretinoin for control of acne as long as local irritation does not interfere with<br />
wear of <strong>the</strong> life-support equipment.<br />
A7.32.4.9. Topical acyclovir.<br />
A7.32.4.10. Completion of a course of oral penicillin, oxacillin, dicloxacillin, amoxicillin, erythromycin,<br />
sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim, tetracycline, ampicillin, doxycycline, or cephalexin,<br />
once <strong>the</strong> acute infectious process is asymptomatic.<br />
A7.32.4.11. Vaginal creams or suppositories for treatment of vaginitis once asymptomatic.<br />
A7.32.4.12. Temazepam, or zolpidem if such use is essential for <strong>the</strong> safe performance of mission,<br />
<strong>and</strong> only after MAJCOM/SG coordination <strong>and</strong> approval. MAJCOM/SG may delegate this<br />
approval to wing <strong>and</strong> detachment level if unit mission so warrants. Single dose ground trial is<br />
required for use.<br />
A7.32.4.13. Dextroamphetamine use may be allowed for certain missions. Check with MAJ<br />
COM/SG prior to prescribing. Single dose grounding trial is required.<br />
A7.32.4.14. Immunobiologics.<br />
A7.32.4.15. Nicorette or transdermal nicotine. Minimum of 72 hours ground trial.<br />
A7.32.4.16. Resin binding agents such as cholestyramine for control of hyperlipidemia. Note:<br />
Niacin is not approved for use by flyers.<br />
A7.32.5. Maintenance medication requiring waiver. Those medications for conditions listed below<br />
may be waived by <strong>the</strong> MAJCOM surgeon. The use of o<strong>the</strong>r medications, singly or in combination<br />
requires review by AFMOA/SGOA for rated officers <strong>and</strong> by <strong>the</strong> MAJCOM surgeon for non-rated flying<br />
personnel.
