7.2 Internet Continuity Checks
7.2.1 Purpose
This procedure describes how the NCC can verify South Pole or WSC router integrity during
fault isolation.
7.2.2 Participants
a. NCC.
7.2.3 Procedure
7.2.3.1 General
To verify the continuity with the Cisco 4500 routers at WSC and South Pole router and
equipment for fault isolation purposes a Ping test is performed.
7.2.3.2 Test Operation
a. To perform the test, go to DOS, then type in “ping” followed by a space and then type in
one of the applicable SPTR IP addresses:
1. STGT Router
2. WSGT Router
3. South Pole SPTR Router
4. South Pole LAN Router to Ginko
5. South Pole Monitor and Control System.
NOTE
Since IP addresses have a sensitivity, the operations positions
performing fault isolation using ping or traceroute have been
provided the addresses.
b. The Internet has various search engine mechanisms which have the capability to ping
locations using their web site as a source. Also, there are numerous PC software utility
programs that have ping and traceroute capability and that use you computer as the
source. For MacIntosh the WhatRoute shareware program can be used.
