Section 8. Acquisition Data Handling Procedures
8.1 SPTR State Vector Transmission
8.1.1 Purpose
This procedure describes State Vector generation and transmission.
8.1.2 Participants

8.1.3 Procedure
8.1.3.1 General
The SPTR project has been assigned a dedicated Support Identification Code (SIC). A
permanent Type-8 vector is resident in the WSC ADPE data base with the South Pole
coordinates. As a backup, FDF will provide daily Type-8 Improved Interrange Vector (IIRV)
state vectors to the NCC for transmission to WSC if required.
8.1.3.2 Generation
The FDF calculates the predicted South Pole view periods of TDRS-1 for a 2-week span and
provides these data to the NCC two weeks prior to the support span. The daily time periods will
change slightly each day based on the predicted orbital precession of TDRS-1. The daily schedule
time will be centered on the most southern TDRS-1 inclination time. The start and stop time is
based on the fixed South Pole SPTR antenna beam widths and using a horizon elevation angle of
zero degrees factoring in refraction. TDRS-1 will move in and out of these fixed beam locations
each day to provide the daily communications.
8.1.3.2 Distribution
The NCC incorporates the scheduled times into the two-week SPTR Schedule. The schedule is
distributed via the e-mail SPTR collective.
