" September 12th. The Postmaster-General came to the office for
the first time since our recent correspondence. His manner was
most hearty and friendly, so much so as to render it almost
impossible to discuss any question otherwise than in the most
amicable manner. His stay was so short that I could barely get
through the most pressing business; it is understood, however, that
we are to talk over the correspondence when he comes next."
On further consideration,
I determined to take no
further action at present ; and, indeed, my attention
was soon afterwards engrossed in other matters.
