1. Aim<br />
The aim of this manual is to provide contractors, involved in the labour-based construction<br />
of bituminous seals, with a detailed description of the materials, plant and equipment and<br />
processes involved in the construction of this work.<br />
2. Composition<br />
The manual comprises the following modules:<br />
Module 1: Safety during construction<br />
Module 2: Procedure for operating and applying binder using the motorised hand<br />
sprayer<br />
Module 3: <strong>Construction</strong> of a single seal<br />
Module 4: <strong>Construction</strong> of a slurry seal<br />
Module 5: <strong>Construction</strong> of a Cape seal<br />
Module 6: <strong>Construction</strong> of a Otta seal<br />
Module 7: Indicative production and task rates<br />
3. Notes to designer/consultant<br />
A set of ‘Notes to designer/consultant’ is included at the end of the modules comprising<br />
this manual, where applicable. These notes are provided to highlight important aspects,<br />
applicable to that module that the designer/consultant should take into account.<br />
