Aleppo is also famous for its “gar
soap” which is like a big cube.
The eldest regarded the gar soap
as the best soap of the world.
In addition to all these Aleppo
has many examples of wood,
glass, leather, steel, copper, ceramic,
porcelain and mosaic arts.
There is a Traditional Arts Bazaar
is Aleppo and within this bazaar
most important place is the
Coppersmith’s Bazaar which lies
between Bab Al-Hadid and Bab
Al-Nasr and allocated for products
made from copper. These
bazaars have important contribution
to introduce the traditional
professions and approve the legendary
history of the City of
Aleppo.
Aleppo Cookery
Aleppo became a haunting place
for the merchants due to its critical
positions and many of these
merchants moved to city later on.
Therefore, the city became familiar
with different catering styles
and customs of different human
societies. Aleppo merchant is very
careful and willing about communicating
with the foreign merc-
hants, especially during their visit
to the city. He acts carefully in
order to avoid misinterpretations,
errors and any kind of behaviours
that may have negative effects of
his relations between foreign
merchants.
All these differences also affected
the Aleppo Cookery. These values
are not just emerged from a certain
time but from the cumulative
experience of all those years. The
trade between East and West introduced
many spices and materials
to the people; the main difference
of Aleppo from other regions
of Syria is that Aleppo has its
own style and taste of cookery.
For instance, there are more than
26 kebab type and many types of
meatloaf.
The most important examples of
meatloaf are; cooked, cooked in
fry pen, with Lebeniye, with Sumac
Siferceliyyeli (with quince),
Mebrume (Curled).
Festivals and
Celebrations
Also, the Nights of the Aleppo Citadel

Theatre appeals to a wide range

both from Syria and Arabian
World and also from all over the
world.
Again annually in every May there
are many cultural panels, exhibitions
of handicrafts and many
celebrations that are held within
the scope of the “Old City Culture
Week” that is being organized in
order to preserve the cultural heritage
of the Old City and make
the it a live centre of the culture.
Also, as being the sister city of
Gaziantep there are some sorts of
celebrations and cultural events
that have been held and which
consists of exhibitions of songs in
Aleppo, folk dances and exhibitions.
