The Mayor of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality<br />
Gaziantep is one of the few cities,<br />
which was able to carry over the<br />
cultural richness of the civilizations<br />
which it was founded upon.<br />
Being on the Silk Way helped the<br />
city to maintain its cultural and<br />
economical trenchancy in every<br />
stage of history up to present time.<br />
The city is trans<strong>for</strong>ming from a<br />
historical location to a modern<br />
one at a very fast pace. The trans<strong>for</strong>mation<br />
is taking place with the<br />
consideration of the city’s architectural<br />
identity, without damaging<br />
its traditional life style, by<br />
rejuvenating its historical face<br />
with the idea of bridging past and<br />
contemporary living.<br />
Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality<br />
believes that by conserving<br />
the traditional values and local<br />
identity of the city, that city can<br />
become well known globally. With<br />
this ideology, Metropolitan Municipality,<br />
and the community service<br />
organizations helping Gaziantep’s<br />
becoming world city dream<br />
come true by supporting the city<br />
renovations.<br />
Metropolitan Municipality is putting<br />
a lot of ef<strong>for</strong>t into improving<br />
the relationships between our sister<br />
city and neighbor city Aleppo<br />
and Gaziantep. To do this, there<br />
are a few projects going on which<br />
will provide both cities economical<br />
growth by attracting tourists.<br />
Gaziantep - Aleppo Cultural and<br />
Touristic Richness Project is one<br />
of these projects which we mentioned<br />
above. This project is planned<br />
within Turkey - Syria Interregional<br />
Cooperation Program.<br />
And it is being supported by Republic<br />
of Turkey State Planning<br />
Organization.<br />
We believe without any doubt that<br />
this project will not only improve<br />
the relationships between two sister-cities,<br />
but will also improve<br />
the relationships between two countries,<br />
Turkey and Syria. We<br />
would like to extend our thanks to<br />
Mr Ali Kemal Ayd›n, the Consul<br />
General of the Republic of Turkey<br />
in Aleppo <strong>for</strong> helping and supporting<br />
us in every stage of our project.<br />

Aleppo is considered as inseparable<br />
part of the eastern history.<br />
For centuries, it hosted many civilizations<br />
in the hands of its talented<br />
people. Nowadays, one can<br />
study the privileged features of local<br />
people through their magnificent<br />
artifacts, their courage, their<br />
generosity, their architectural<br />
style surrounded by the ideologies<br />
such as love and peace, their people<br />
skills in industrial and business<br />
areas.<br />
Aleppo is situated right in the intersection<br />
of east and west in the<br />
center of historical Silk Way. People<br />
who have come to see this<br />
place, they told everyone about<br />
the cultural heritage and cultural<br />
features of people from Aleppo.<br />
With its great history, Aleppo has<br />
always been a great place to see<br />
<strong>for</strong> international travelers. It has<br />
always cooperated with the neighboring<br />
countries. And the public<br />
has always worked to bring the<br />
peace in the region among their<br />
families and friends.<br />
City Board of Aleppo is working<br />
very hard to attract more tourists<br />
into the region. City is trying to<br />
achieve this goal by restoring and<br />
conserving the cultural heritage<br />
with the help of international and<br />
regional programs and projects.<br />
One of the leading projects is the<br />
one with our neighbor Turkey, and<br />
it is called “Gaziantep - Aleppo<br />
Cultural and Touristic Richness<br />
Project”<br />
There have been many improvements<br />
in the region <strong>for</strong> the last five<br />
years because of the sister city<br />
agreement between two cities.<br />
Seeing the fruits of all the hard<br />
work put in this agreement makes<br />
us very happy. Our cooperation<br />
emphasizes that we could set<br />
bridges between our shared history<br />
and our future life. We are<br />
hoping to pass great values and<br />
studies to the next generations in<br />
terms of science, faith, wisdom,<br />
and good moral values.<br />
There<strong>for</strong>e, Aleppo is hoping to<br />
strengthen love and peace ties<br />
between sister city Gaziantep within<br />
Turkey-Syria Inter-regional<br />
Cooperation Program. We are<br />
planning to achieve this goal by<br />
co-funded projects which will help<br />
both sides. We believe that we found<br />
the best partner to achieve<br />
such goals.<br />

shared project “Gaziantep – Aleppo<br />
Cultural and Touristic Richness<br />
Project” aiming to restore<br />
the cultural and the historical heritage.<br />
By restoring the heritage,<br />
they are hoping to enlighten and<br />
improve potential of tourism, industry,<br />
business, and artistic values.<br />
We hope that we would achieve<br />
this goal.
