LONDON This Is Whitechapel
In 1972 the Whitechapel wanted
to document East London at a time
of rapid social and economic change.
The photographs commissioned from
Magnum photographer Ian Berry formed
part of a major exhibition at the time.
With the East End on the brink of
upheaval once again, the show has been
revived through the gallery’s archives
of original photographs and rarely
seen documents. Free, until September 4,

d’immortaliser un East-End (les
quartiers de l’est) londonien alors en
pleine mutation socio-économique.
De retour de Paris, il pose un œil frais
sur ces quartiers. Ces photographies
composèrent à l’époque une exposition
majeure à laquelle la galerie redonne vie
avec ses archives de photos originales
et de documents quasi inédits.

BRUSSELS Venetian and
Flemish Masters
The city’s house of fi ne arts, Bozar,
pulls out all the stops with this, one
of the top exhibitions of the year,
Venetian and Flemish Masters. The show
brings together masterpieces of the
Flemish Primitives from Antwerp’s Royal
Museum of Fine Arts with works from the
Accademia Carrara in Bergamo and will
highlight the major infl uence each school
