The Firearms Trafficking Determination has provided intelligence and information
to place into context Australia’s position within the international illicit firearms
market. Each investigation under the Determination has targeted federally-relevant
criminal activity and focused on gathering information and intelligence regarding the
importation of firearms and cross border trafficking. Many of these investigations have
led to the seizure of firearms, arrests, charges and convictions.
Results include:
• the seizure of 1,121 firearms;
• a National Threat Assessment on Firearms Trafficking was produced from
intelligence collected from Australian law enforcement agencies, and was
circulated to ACC Board members;
• twenty drug seizures; and
• the Firearms Trafficking Determination conducted 31 projects/operations in
an effort to reduce the impact of firearms trafficking in Australia and identify
culprits.
