I am pleased to present the fi rst full year annual
report for the Australian Crime Commission.
During the 2003–04 reporting year the ACC
continued to pursue change, cooperation and
teamwork, both internally and in collaboration
with our partner law enforcement agencies.
Our stated challenges to re-engineer internally,
identify our role and establish our external
law enforcement relationships has involved
rigorous self examination and commitment.
The result is a refi ned organisational structure
that directs our resources towards countering
serious and organised crime.
Organisational change processes were
managed through the ACC’s Integration and
Development Project, involving staff participation at all levels. To ensure its relevance,
the project transitioned to the Continuous Development Program in January 2004
and provides ongoing scrutiny of processes within the ACC.
Our professional standards have been tested during the reporting period, a challenge
that has been met by strengthening our management and supervision and by
renewed focus on those programs that foster the highest level of professionalism
and integrity.
Our performance and successes for the past 12 months are presented in this report,
including clear evidence of the development of dynamic partnerships with other
Australian law enforcement agencies. These partnerships have highlighted how
cooperation between agencies can have a positive impact on serious and organised
crime in Australia.
I recognise the challenging environment within which the ACC operates and thank
all staff for their loyalty and effort. The dedication and commitment of the ACC staff
have made these results possible.
The next 12 months will see the ACC continue to establish its position in national
law enforcement, while striving to reduce the impact of organised and serious crime
on Australia and its people.
